UPCOMING EVENTS

Celebrate 250 years of freedom, heritage, and community.

What is America 250?

In 2026, America will commemorate 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.  The America 250 NC Stanly County Committee is made up of a group of volunteers  from municipal governments and nonprofit service organizations from across Stanly County. Together, with the support of presenting sponsor Uwharrie Bank, we have planned series of events, exhibits, and activities throughout Stanly County to celebrate our nation's 250th birthday.

Lights of Liberty Drone Show

The signature event of our America 250 celebrations will be a professional drone show called Lights of Liberty at City Lake Park on June 5th after Food Truck Friday around 9 p.m.

The show, set to narration and music, will feature illuminated drones creating moving images and patriotic scenes in the sky, much like a storytelling fireworks display.

The event is a first of its kind for Stanly County. Tell your family, friends, and neighbors to join you and be part of history in our community.

Battle of Colson’s Mill Mural Unveiling

Join us on April 25 at 11 a.m. in downtown Norwood for the unveiling of a mural commemorating the Battle of Colson's Mill.

The Battle of Colson’s Mill took place just outside Norwood on July 21, 1780. William Davidson—after whom Davidson County was named—led a large force of Patriots against Loyalists at the fork of the Pee Dee and Rocky rivers, where Colson Mill once stood.
