Photo Contest Announced - Lights of Liberty Drone Show

The Lights of Liberty Drone Show, held Friday, June 5 at City Lake Park, delivered an unforgettable patriotic celebration as approximately 6,000 residents and visitors gathered for the signature event of Stanly County’s America 250 celebrations. Featuring 250 illuminated drones choreographed to narration and music, the show filled the sky with vivid, moving images honoring Stanly County and our nation’s history in a modern and inspiring way.

The custom designed show included a powerful representation of the Battle of Colson’s Mill, the only Revolutionary War battle fought in Stanly County, bringing local history to life. Audiences also enjoyed imagery celebrating the natural beauty of Stanly County, with scenes highlighting its rolling landscape, shimmering lakes, and rich agricultural heritage. In addition, the drone show featured a moving tribute to military service, including a dramatic fighter jet and a depiction of a saluting military general that illuminated the sky in a patriotic display. 

The event was presented through the generous support of Uwharrie Bank, whose sponsorship made the celebration possible.

The celebration began with the City of Albemarle’s Food Truck Friday, featuring a variety of food trucks and free live music from Heart Breaker.

A free shuttle service, courtesy of Friendly Chevrolet, allowed for increased crowds to park at Market Station in downtown Albemarle and be transported to City Lake Park.

The first 800 cars received complimentary LED light‑up American flags from the City of Albemarle Electric Division and ElectriCities.
